  1. Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome for the last time from today's proposition / opposition. I’m the third speaker and it is now my pleasure to summarize this debate, take a look at what both sides have said and see what the outcome of this debate actually is.
  2. REBUTTAL

2.1.   I’d like to focus on two/three points that the other side has failed to address. / I want to call your attention to an important point that our opponents have not addressed. / There are two/three points that we have succeeded in establishing.

            2.2.1.   The first clash was: ... Today's prop/opposition told us that ... Doesn't what they were saying contradict with ...?

            2.2.2.   The second clash was: ... Wouldn't you have to agree that ...?

            2.2.3.   The major clash was: ... Our opponents have claimed that… The proposition’s / opposition’s motion may seem plausible at first glance, however, we as the opposition / proposition, would like to point out that ….

 

USEFUL PHRASES

  • The proposition / opposition unfortunately failed to reveal the truth of the matter…
  • The other side has failed to answer our point about…
  • We said that…but the other side has not replied to our point that...
  • The other side would have to explain why.... otherwise we win that point.
  • At first sight, the proposition’s argument seems to be true. But….
  • To sum up, here are the main points our opponents have not addressed…

 

3.   SUMMARY:

  • In summary, we want to point out that the opposition have tried to make some good points, however, they forgot to think about some very important issues, namely…. / To sum up, our motion must stand, simply because during the debate we have shown….
  • After careful consideration, and for all these reasons, we must conclude that you must  propose/oppose.
